Earlier today, the Curtis Guild Elementary School in East Boston was presented with the Seal of Excellence by the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) Welcoming Schools program. The Guild is the 3rd school in the district -- and only the 16th in the nation -- to earn the honor, which recognizes schools that demonstrate outstanding dedication to creating and sustaining welcoming and inclusive learning environments! #eastie #boston #welcomingschools 🎉🐊
"Acceptance" will serve as the cover of the 2019-20 Guide to BPS for Students and Families! For the collage, each piece was made by a BPS student with Autism across 22 of our schools, providing an artistic response to the prompt, "What is your superpower?" Thanks to sensory arts teacher Chris Hall at the Joseph Lee K-8 School for putting the piece together. After receiving close to 900 votes, "Acceptance" won with 28.3% of the votes cast.
We had so much fun marching in the 2019 Boston Pride Parade yesterday! Since 2009, the BPS Arts Expansion initiative has provided arts education to an additional 17,000 students per year and doubled the number of arts educators to nearly 300. Community partner EdVestors has facilitated an additional $350,000 in philanthropic funding toward the initiative for the next school year.
The Boston Latin School students who recently won the @wgbh High School Quiz Show championship got a visit from Mayor Marty Walsh, along with plaques and a banner to commemorate their successful season! This was the first time BLS appeared on the show!
Take a look at these scholars! Six students got surprise $1,000 scholarships today at the Harvard-Kent Elementary School in Charlestown, where their parents and loved ones waited back stage! It’s all part of an annual event organized by the Harvard-Kent Leadership Scholarship Partnership, which rewards students for academic achievement, peer leadership, and being a good friend — and gets students thinking about college at a young age! The students are Savian Hallie and Adrianna Montalban (3rd grade), Sophia Salgado and Jenny Li (4th grade), and Marcus Wixon and Sonia Chen (5th grade.) (Photos by Jeremiah Robinson / Mayor’s Office)
