It was great to honor AnnMary Connor today at the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women’s Unsung Heroines event today. AnnMary is the Director of Elder Services for the Town of Andover, and she does a tremendous job working for our aging population to ensure they can access the programs and support they need to age comfortably. AnnMary was one of nearly 130 honorees from around the Commonwealth today, and I was grateful to be in the presence of such powerful, accomplished women from the Merrimack Valley and beyond.
So thrilled to address graduates of Up Academy Oliver today. As a graduate of Oliver myself, it gives me great pride to see another generation of students passing through its doors and reaching their potential. Today I shared a message of striving to be a leader in your community, in whatever shape or form that may take. I certainly saw leaders as I looked out on the crowd today, and I look forward to seeing what these young people accomplish in high school and beyond. Congrats! 🎓🎉
It was great to tour the Quality Life Adult Day Services Center in Lawrence and witness firsthand the efforts being made to ensure our elders can age comfortably in their own communities. We’ve made great strides in elder services here in the legislature, and seeing these facilities motivates me even more to make sure this continues.
A big thank you to Raquel Quezada for stopping by yesterday for a conversation about my role as a State Representative and legislative priorities. Raquel has a unique perspective as a mother of a child with disabilities, and I very much appreciated the opportunity to discuss her own advocacy efforts on that issue and share with her efforts being made here in the legislature to better serve persons with disabilities in all of our communities.
It’s always a pleasure to join the Lawrence Family Development Charter School to celebrate their graduates and wish them well as they move on to the next step in high school. Thank you to the hard-working and dedicated educators who prepare our young people for this big step, and one last congrats to all of the graduates and their families!
Great to kick off Semana Hispana 2019, Spanish Week 2019, on Friday with a beautiful gala in Lawrence. It’s always such a joyous week here in our community, and I was thrilled to start it by presenting citations to the event itself as well as Sofia Lachapelle. Looking forward to continuing the celebrations tonight with Noche Dominicana 🇩🇴 and Puerto Rican night 🇵🇷 tomorrow!
Congratulations to the 2019 Greater Lawrence Technical High School graduates. As a graduate of GLTS myself, I know what incredible opportunities this education afford these students as they move on to the next challenge in their lives. Thank you to the GLTS staff for another successful year of preparing the next generation, and to the families of the graduates for all of the support you give these talented young men and women. #districtpride
#orgullodistricto
Congratulations to the GLTS STEAM Innovation Program on their presentation of their project yesterday at the State House. “The Syria Bioreactor Project” saw students utilize objects that could be found in destroyed hospitals in Syria to create a working bioreactor. I know all who witnessed were impressed by these students and their ingenuity, and I’m thrilled to see my alma mater continue to do BIG things!
It’s always a pleasure to join the Lawrence Adult Learning Center for their annual graduation ceremony. Students and staff celebrated accomplishments in Hiset, ESOL, and much more with friends and loved ones. Thank you to the educators for your hard work and dedication, and congratulations to all of the students on your accomplishments!
Thrilled to kick off the 2019 Summer Legislative Intern Program yesterday in my role as Chairman of the House Committee on Personnel and Administration. These students will gain incredible insight and experience the legislative process first-hand over the next nine weeks, and I’m happy to welcome them to the State House.
Thrilled to testify today alongside my constituent Jessica Caverly and her family in support of a bill I filed, H534, An Act providing for diabetes management in schools. This bill would support students like Stephen, and many other families just like his, in managing Type 1 Diabetes in a way that doesn’t disrupt their ability to learn in the classroom. Thank you to the Caverly family for being here today, and to Jessica for your wonderful testimony on behalf of our bill.
It was great to stop by the Lawrence @mvymca yesterday to tour the exciting changes being made. The YMCA plays such a big role in our communities, and I’m thrilled they will be expanding their capacity even further at the Lawrence location to provide more of these great services. Thank you to Tom Childs and the Lawrence YMCA Building Committee for giving us this exclusive look.
